According to industry insider Tom Henderson, the upcoming sequel to Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 will be set in the year 2030.
Henderson noted that the new game will bring back familiar characters from the Black Ops storyline. The developers are also said to be overhauling the movement systems and adding features like the „Pick 10“ system, the Gunfight mode, and new zombie-themed maps.
Initially, the studio had planned to release the sequel with remastered maps from Black Ops 2, but they decided against it after the backlash over a similar approach in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.
The Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 sequel is slated for release before the end of 2025. Players can also expect another mainline Call of Duty title to launch in 2024.
This upcoming entry in the beloved Black Ops sub-franchise aims to build upon the strong foundation of the previous game, while incorporating new gameplay innovations and fan-requested features. Fans of the series are eagerly anticipating the chance to reconnect with beloved characters in a futuristic setting.
